During a workshop in Monaco about superyachts, led by the world’s largest classification society DNV GL, the energy concept of AQUON One was presented as an example for alternative fuels.
Green shift in superyachts
The rethinking of sustainability and efficiency has arrived in the yacht industry. Significantly reducing emissions and introducing new propulsion technologies are key challenges for marine companies. In June, the world’s largest classification society DNV GL organized a workshop on this topic which focused on sustainable superyachts.
AQUON One as a role model in alternative fuels
DNV GL has a wealth of knowledge and brought its expertise to the renowned Monaco Yacht Club. Among the guests were top superyacht designers, builders, management companies, captains and owners’ representatives. Experts within DNV GL and two leading yacht designers shared their visions on how to make superyachts more sustainable. As a role model for alternative fuels, the AQUON One energy system was presented in the workshop. Creating its own green hydrogen out of solar energy and pure water by means of electrolysis, the emission-free energy system sets new standards in innovation and sustainability.
Promising approaches to making superyachts sustainable
Apart from AQUON, renowned naval architect Espen Oeino presented his ideas on environmentally-friendly superyachts, going back to the basics of efficient hull forms. Above the water surface, the naval architectural firm VPLP presented Ocean-Wings®, an automated reefable and furlable wingsail that ensures optimal propulsion.
The workshop presented innovative examples of how future superyachts will have to rely on a broader range of fuels, propulsion solutions and energy efficiency measures.
