A Weekend in Monaco – the Heart of the French Riviera
We love the French Riviera, but there is just something special about Monaco: its prestigious locations, the green gardens, the Mediterranean Sea, and the harbors. Despite its modest size, Monaco has a lot to offer.
This is why we have gathered our favorite tips and destinations for you to explore during your stay.
The arrival
Surrounded by the French cities of Cannes Nice and St. Tropez, Monaco sits comfortably on the coast and is easily reached by car or train. However, for an exceptional arrival, you can make your entry by boat at Port Hercule, Monaco’s main port and a showplace for luxury and superyachts. At the foot of Le Rocher, you will find Port de Fontvieille, from which you can reach some of Monaco’s landmarks such as the Cathédrale de Notre-Dame-Immaculée or the Palais Princier de Monaco. The Cathedral was built between 1875 and 1903 and sits on the side of the first parish church in Monaco which dates back to 1252. The Palais Princier de Monaco is the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco. It was built in 1191 and serves as a home to the Grimaldi family since the end of the 13th century.
Morning Stroll
From the Cathédrale de Notre-Dame-Immaculée and the Palais Princier de Monaco you can take a nice walk to Monte Carlo for a bite at the La Note Bleue. Located at the beach, it offers magnificent views of the mediterranean and a pleasant ocean breeze while featuring cuisine with accents from Asia and the Mediterranean.
Lunchtime Favorites
For lunch, we recommend a visit to Mada One. Mada One follows a unique restaurant concept by Michelin-starred chef Marcel Ravin and offers cuisine centred around good and natural products. On the menu you will find salads, fish and wonderful desserts.
Le Limùn is a charming restaurant at the Hôtel Hermitage Monte – Carlo and also an excellent choice for lunch or teatime in the afternoon. It offers salads, meat and lobster in a tasteful and peaceful setting.
Afternoon Delight
After lunch we recommend a visit to the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco. The museum of contemporary arts in Monaco shows two exhibitions a year that are worth a visit.
Alterou can visit the legendary Casino de Monte Carlo.
For a change of scenery, take a stroll through Jardin Exotique and enjoy the various plants and the wonderful view of the Mediterranean Sea.
Local Treats
If you may feel like a bit of shopping, make sure to stop by K11 Conceptstore as it has something to offer for everyone. Here you´ll find art, tech, fashion and more.
Les Grands Chais Monégasques is also worth a visit. It offers fine wines, top-quality champagnes, and rare spirits. The shops classic décor, wooden beams and old winebarrels remind us of the boutique’s beginnings in the 1900s. They not only sell wine and spirits but also delicatessen such as balsamic vinegar, foie gras and confits.
Another place you simply cannot miss is the Chocolaterie de Monaco which was founded in 1920. In 1999 is was appointed as the official supplier to the Palace of Monaco by Prince Rainier III.
Gourmet Evenings
Our favorite dining options include L´Hirondelle, which not only offers French and Mediterranean cuisine with local and seasonal products, but also an exceptional view of Monaco and the port.
Another choice is Le Grill on the 8th floor of the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo. Here you can experience French cuisine with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean. In summer you may also enjoy a dinner under the stars as the restaurant´s roof is opened.
