AQUON at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2021

AQUON One at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2021

From 6-10 July 2021, AQUON was part of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, presenting the solar and hydrogen catamaran “AQUON One”. The epic week of racing, smart technology, and innovation in yachting brought together the community of those who will shape the future of modern yachting. The event was held for the 8th time in a row. It is hosted by the Yacht Club of Monaco, in collaboration with the International Powerboating Federation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Redefining the Sustainable Future of Yachting

The event featured smart and innovative technologies that define the future of yachting: From ground-breaking propulsion systems using renewable energy sources such as solar or hydrogen fuel cells, to highly efficient propellers and smart energy control mechanisms. The goal is a cleaner, safer, and silent yachting experience that is in tune with the environment.

To make things more exciting, university teams from across the world presented their prototypes. They raced in the Energy Challenge’s three different classes: Energy Boats, Solar Boats, and Open Sea Class. Congratulations to the student of the Swiss Solar Boat team for their 2nd place in the Solar Class and winning the eco-conception prize! Their solar panels were sponsored by our partner CSEM, who is custom-designing the solar panels for the AQUON One catamaran.

Solar and Hydrogen Yachts on the Rise

A big focus during the week laid on hydrogen propulsion and fuel cell electric ships. AQUON’s CEO & Co-Founder Christine Funck took part in the Hydrogen Roundtable. We are inspired to have so many experts and thought leaders confirm that green hydrogen will play a major role in the future of yachting to become zero-emissions.

TOGETHER FOR A BETTER FUTURE IN YACHTING!

We would like to thank the Yacht Club de Monaco for creating this important platform for sustainable yachting and congratulate the organizing team for making this a great and inspiring event!
